Cyprus is an island of breathtaking scenery, with beautiful sandy beaches set against a landscape of rugged cliffs, dense pine forests, field after field of vines, citrus and banana trees.
Recognised as the most sun sure spot in the eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus enjoys an average of 340 sunny days per year with low annual rainfall. Wherever you go, you will find that the local people are friendly and welcoming and that English is widely spoken throughout the island. Travel in any direction from Paphos and within a few kilometers you are in an area of rugged hills and rolling countryside or lovely stretches of sandy beaches.
The Paphos region which spans the whole South Western area is just a short distance east of Paphos International Airport and includes gorges, pine forests, vineyards, small mountain villages and a selection of championship golf courses, as well as the beaches, shops, bars and restaurants in the main resorts of Paphos and Coral Bay. Transfer time from Paphos Airport to Coral Bay is approximately 30 minutes drive. If arriving into Larnaca Airport the transfer time to Coral Bay is approximately 2 hours drive.
CORAL BAY
Situated along the coastal road approximately 8 kilometres from Paphos, Coral Bay beach is shaped like a horseshoe cove. In the middle of the Bay there is an extensive sandy beach bordered by lime stone rocks. This peaceful pretty location has very calm, clear waters and safe bathing. The Bay has a varied and extensive variety of water sports. Swimming is particularly pleasant here and the sea remains warm until late November.
The resort centre of Coral Bay offers a wealth of attractions. Mainly catering for families and couples it has a somewhat laid back atmosphere. It is a gourmets delight with a wide variety of restaurants ranging from local Cypriot cuisine eaten in a typical tavern, steak houses, Italian and Chinese restaurants all served in lovely surroundings, not forgetting sandwich and snack bars.
There is a variety of bars to enjoy a sun downer or after dinner night cap. Night owls will find that several bars stay open until late, for those looking to dance the nights away in a club then “Bar Street” in Paphos centre is the place to go.
Coral Bay has a variety of shops, supermarkets (for all your provisions) local bakery and travel agents who are able to book various excursions. There is also a local doctor’s surgery and pharmacy.
If the children tire of the beach of the swimming pool there is a small adventure park which has an amusement arcade and crazy golf and a little further out of the centre there is the Go Kart track. Nearby is the Reptile Park and also the Bird Park (which actually has far more than just birds – but the daily parrot show is fabulous). There is a Water Park in Paphos. Paphos can easily be reached by bus which runs every 20 minutes from Coral Bay centre.
CORALLIA
Located 1 kilometre further along the main road from Coral Bay is Corallia. (The local Paphos buses terminate here). The long stretch of its sandy beach curves around 2 bays. Quieter than Coral Bay the area has a few shops, bars and restaurants including a lovely restaurant named Corallia which is situated on the beach.
SEA CAVES
The Sea Caves are situated along the small coastal lane a short distance from the Corallia area. The Sea Caves are well worth a visit for the sheer natural beauty of the limestone rocks cascading down to the crystal clear waters.
AGHIOS GEORGIOS (St. George)
Heading west from Coral Bay just a short drive down the coast is the small fishing harbor of Aghios Georgios, which sits in a break water in front of a small island. Used mostly by locals at the weekends there is a small beach and several excellent fish restaurants. Well worth visiting to coincide with sun down, the sunset here must be one of the most dramatic and beautiful in the Mediterranean.
PEGEIA (Peyia)
An overwhelming friendly village tucked away in the hills approximately 3 kilometres away from Coral Bay, Pegia has several coffee shops, heartily welcoming tavernas which provide excellent local food at reasonable prices. Philipos supermarket, situated behind the beautiful church has a wide variety of English and local food products and is more reasonably priced than the supermarkets in Coral Bay. Popular with couples who choose to marry out in Cyprus the Town Hall has the most beautiful sunken gardens dating back centuries and is the perfect setting for an outdoor wedding ceremony.
